As you can probably guess, unless you're naturally calm and photogenic in front of the lens, people can often tense up when they have their photograph taken, leading to somewhat awkward and overposed photos.
My fly-on-the-wall style of documentary photography focuses solely on retelling the story of the event. That means, direction will be at a minimum unless I know that will help you to feel more at ease on front of the camera. I will capture the moments as they happen, I will never force an unnatural situation.
In fact, some of my most beautiful shots have been taken when couples or children don't even realise the shot is being taken; they're just being themselves; enjoying their day; enjoying each others' company; going about their business as the event unfolds. The simple laughs, looks, and gestures; that's what I look for.
